Emi Soekawa grew up stealing bites from her parent’s Japanese restaurant in Manhattan. Before graduating Columbia University as a non-fiction writing major, Soekawa was Claudia on a Babysitters Club book cover, performed off-Broadway at the Grove Street Playhouse and interned for the Marie Claire features department. Screenwriter of, “The Retreat" a short film, which opened The Big Apple Film Festival 2010 weekend at Tribeca Cinemas. At Scholastic Media, she ran the production desk on Netflix’s reboot of The Magic School Bus and Sony’s Goosebumps and other deliciously fun shows and apps. Later, Soekawa worked for innovative apps companies as a product manager, producer and content team lead. Co-founder of the popular ten year NYC Live Nation comedy storytelling show, Bad Date Great Story, Soekawa is finally pursuing her real dream of writing rom-coms filled with all the delicious awkwardness of real-life, a dash of half-Asian p.o.v, international travel, and MANY crave-worthy meals.
As a writer, I am incredibly grateful to have my debut fiction manuscript represented by one of the loveliest agents. The story follows half-Japanese childhood partners-in-crime who navigate career aspirations, failures and their own tumultuous relationship.
